"Make a contract with me, and become a Puella Magi!"

After being approached by the strange creature, you made a contract with him and became a magical girl—a Puella Magi (or Puer for the guys). In exchange for having one wish granted, you must fight witches and collect Grief Seeds in order to keep your Soul Gem bright and clean!

But witch hunting is dangerous work -- do you have what it takes to walk the path of a Puella Magi?

1. Teamwork, go! You've got another Magi at your side and the two of you are working together to fight this witch!

2. Oh, err... you've stumbled into another Puella Magi's territory and they're not happy about it. Get your dukes up and prepare to fight!

3. You're a newbie Puella Magi trying to find your way in the world. Lucky you've got a mentor who can teach you how it goes!

4. One minute everything's good and normal and suddenly the whole world is topsy-turvy—the fact that you're just a regular (and probably very confused) person isn't helping this whole trapped-in-a-witch-barrier situation you've found yourself stuck in at all, and you'd probably be toast if there wasn't this Magi here saving your butt!

5. You didn't think that things could be so serious, so hard in the life of a Magi—not until you both just had to watch a friend's gruesome death at the hands of a witch. What are you going to do now?

6. The awful truth has made itself known. You have discovered, in some way or another, that your Soul Gem actually contains your soul and now your body is little more than a meat puppet. It's okay to cry.

7. This is it; the end. You or your friend have fallen into despair and the awful truth has made itself known—Puella Magi mature into witches. You have become a witch.

8. You may have heard stories of this witch but never thought it could be so powerful. The Walpurgis Night is here and devastating your city, and you are the one who has to stop it.

[ she just kind of stares at her dark gem in mild disbelief ]

Oh.

[ she turns it over once, noticing a hairline fracture beginning to spread across it ]

[ she almost doesn't notice the strange wetness in her eyes, but it's such an unfamiliar feeling at this point that it's hard to ignore ]

I always thought I would die before it came to this. I guess we did too good a job, huh.

[ she clutches her gem in one hand and wipes at her eyes with her sleeve. the gem's cracks are now very visible ]

...... I'm sorry for being so stupid.

[ she manages a ghost of a smile before the gem finally shatters ]

[ And suddenly, the world has changed. But Eighis has barely notices. He is, at the moment, too busy screaming his head off. ]

[ aside from eighis' screams, it is completely silent. scattered all around there are life sized, faceless dolls, more mannequins then anything. some are familiars, some are not, but they are numerous and all still. they are all around the same size at mandya's body, which lies just as still at your feet.

there are walls that act as screens that display images that change so quickly it is impossible to tell what they show. they don't construct much of a maze as much as they do many hallways that all lead to the same place, where another doll lays. this one is different, as it has eyes, though they never move. but the eyes are mandya's. ]

[ Somehow, Eighis ended up on his knees, holding Mandya's body. Under normal circumstances, he's just not the type to cry. But these aren't normal circumstances, so the tears are falling freely. Mandya is a witch. Nothing is going to be normal or okay ever again.

This wasn't supposed to happen. His wish was supposed to give him the knowledge he needed to help his friends. He was supposed to know how to keep this from happening. He was supposed to be able to prevent this somehow. This wasn't supposed to happen.

But it did.

Eighis looks up and sees the Familiars, and his power of analysis immediately sets to work. The Familiars' strengths, weaknesses, duties, all manner of important details; the knowledge of each is dropped cold and wet into Eighis' brain. So he gently sets Mandya down, pulls himself to his feet, and transforms.

He already knows that there's no way to bring her back. ]

[ the familiars still do not move. most of them are quite weak, as they are the manifestations of her emotions and feelings, which have been slowly destroyed over time due to her wish. there are only one or two that are a real threat, as they are the remains of her feelings for a few certain people.

except those emotions have been as corrupted as mandya's soul is now, so there will be no mercy. ]

[ Eighis quickly decides that the best course of action is to ignore the Familiars for now. They are, for the most part, so weak that they're not worth wasting magic on. And Eighis most certainly cannot waste magic. Grief Seeds are a rare commodity.

So he carefully steps over Mandya's body, and then he starts for the center of the Labyrinth. He doesn't even summon a weapon before he does so. It'd be a waste to do it now. He wants to conserve his energy for the Witch. ]

[ the familiars still seem not to move, but eighis might notice that every now and then they seem to be arranged differently. one moment one of the dolls will be draped over another doll, the next, it will be propped up against one of the walls.

they likely will not attack until he is closer to the witch ]

[ Creepy as that is, Eighis does not notice. Or if he does, he doesn't care. As long as they aren't standing in his way (or worse, touching him), Eighis will pay little attention to the Familiars. ]

[ they won't attack just yet, but will continue their unseen motion towards the central chamber where the witch lies. they arrange themselves in a messy circle around her, but keep about five feet away from her and leave a pathway for eighis to follow.

it's almost as if they wanted him to reach the witch..... ]

[ This stuff isn't just creepy anymore. It's fucking spooky, and Eighis is starting to notice. In fact, he's spooked enough to reach into his longcoat for a knife. He's reached the central chamber anyway, so he would have needed that knife pretty soon, whether the familiars were being creepy or not. ]

[ the witch sits in the center of the circle, crumpled and barely upright. the only thing that sets her apart from the other familiars are mandya's eyes, which stare blankly out from its face into nothing. it doesn't move, doesn't do anything really, just sits and stares.

meanwhile, the screen walls that form the central chamber begin to flicker wildly. they show single frames in quick succession, and if eighis watches long enough, he might be able to figure out that they are mostly from various tv shows mandya has watched in her life.

if he's really observant though, he might be able to tell that sorted in through the bits of television, are memories. most commonly they feature two boys in particular..... ]

[ He can't do it. He had his knife raised up and ready to throw at the witch, but as soon as he looked it in the face, he found that he just couldn't. The knife fell from his hand and clattered to the ground.

Goddammit all, it has her eyes and it isn't even moving and he can't just look Mandya in the eye and kill her and she isn't even fighting why isn't she fighting why won't she fight

He stands idle (and BSODing) long enough to notice something about the images flashing on the screen. He's beginning to notice certain patterns in the imagery. There's the occasional flash of red or bit of gold, and he just keeps seeing it. So he takes a closer look at the screens. ]
