"Make a contract with me, and become a Puella Magi!"

After being approached by the strange creature, you made a contract with him and became a magical girl—a Puella Magi (or Puer for the guys). In exchange for having one wish granted, you must fight witches and collect Grief Seeds in order to keep your Soul Gem bright and clean!

But witch hunting is dangerous work -- do you have what it takes to walk the path of a Puella Magi?

1. Teamwork, go! You've got another Magi at your side and the two of you are working together to fight this witch!

2. Oh, err... you've stumbled into another Puella Magi's territory and they're not happy about it. Get your dukes up and prepare to fight!

3. You're a newbie Puella Magi trying to find your way in the world. Lucky you've got a mentor who can teach you how it goes!

4. One minute everything's good and normal and suddenly the whole world is topsy-turvy—the fact that you're just a regular (and probably very confused) person isn't helping this whole trapped-in-a-witch-barrier situation you've found yourself stuck in at all, and you'd probably be toast if there wasn't this Magi here saving your butt!

5. You didn't think that things could be so serious, so hard in the life of a Magi—not until you both just had to watch a friend's gruesome death at the hands of a witch. What are you going to do now?

6. The awful truth has made itself known. You have discovered, in some way or another, that your Soul Gem actually contains your soul and now your body is little more than a meat puppet. It's okay to cry.

7. This is it; the end. You or your friend have fallen into despair and the awful truth has made itself known—Puella Magi mature into witches. You have become a witch.

8. You may have heard stories of this witch but never thought it could be so powerful. The Walpurgis Night is here and devastating your city, and you are the one who has to stop it.

[ just sort of watches for a while. she thinks this should probably be amusing, but can't really bring herself to laugh about it. huh. ]

It's not like it matters, Eighis.

[ He stops beating Kyubey against the wall and just. Stares. ]

O-of course, it matters! It's your goddamned soul!

[ shrugs ]

Yeah, but I still got it, right? I mean, sure it's not in me anymore, but it's just right here. [ pulls out her soul gem and just kinda stares at it blankly for a moment. ]

[ Is this why Mandya's been acting so weird and distant and emotionless? Because Kyubey fucked up her soul?

Eighis drops Kyubey to the ground, his anger evaporating. ]

Damn it, Mandya...

[ blinks. ]

What. What'd I say? You look all...... [ she gestures vaguely ] Ehhhh, now.

[ Sad? Depressed? Broken-hearted? These are all words that could describe Eighis' emotional state right now. ]

...

Nevermind. It's nothing.

[ part of her realizes this is wrong, and she thinks that maybe in the past she would have pressed him for answers, or maybe in her own round about way tried to make him feel better, but she just can't bring herself to right now. instead she just stares down at the soul gem ring in her hand again before looking up. ]

Hey. I want you to do something for me.

What is it?

[ What ever it is, he'll probably do it without question. ]

I want you to hold onto this for me.

[ slowly holds out her hand and offers him the soul gem ring ]

You're always close by, anyway.

[ She wants him to keep her soul. She wants him to keep her soul. This might actually be the one thing he'd refuse to do, short of killing her. ]

I... I can't do that. Why would you even want me to? This is your soul! Why do you want me to take it?!

It's important, right? Well, I almost lost it a few days ago.

[ her face has a bit of an odd expression, like it's not quite doing what she wants it to do ]

But you'd keep it safe. And I trust you.

[ and frankly, on some level she's realized that she doesn't quite trust herself anymore ]

[ He has a thousand reasons prepared for if/when she asks "why" ]

[ And then there was the rapid-fire rush of Eighis saying too many words just a little too fast. ]

You were wrong when you said that I'm with you all the time. In order to be near you all the time I would have to follow you home or you would have to follow me home and while I have only a few objections to that, it would raise some awkward questions. Not to mention that I'm actually pretty disorganized and while that wouldn't be too much of an issue since I would always keep the thing on my person, if you were to need it back in a hurry it would probably take me some time to-- actual no, it wouldn't; disregard all that, it's a lame excuse. Also, Bharal probably wouldn't approve of any of this and speaking of which, why aren't you asking him? Besides the fact that he's not here right now. I always thought you found him more trustworthy than I. Not that it's anything but a moot point since he'd probably refuse because this is your soul and you shouldn't someone else just take it. Yes, I know I keep repeating that but it's your soul; it's entirely worth being hung up over. Goddammit, Mandya, why aren't you more upset over this? You've been acting weird ever since you made that contract and it's only gotten worse.

[ tilts her head to one side, deciding which bit to answer ]

If he was here, I'd probably ask him too. But I trust you both, so it doesn't really matter.

And I dunno, it's not really that surprising I guess. Kinda makes sense there would be a price for these cool powers, right? Could be worse.

[ blinks slowly, and finally manages a small frown ] ....... I guess I have been acting weird, huh.

[ And he didn't even stop for breath. That's why he has to catch his breath before he can say anything more. ]

Yeah. You have. Bharal's been worried about it, too. If you trust us so much, then tell us what's going on! Either me or him or both, just. Tell one of us. Please.

But that's the thing, I don't know. I think back to how I used to be, and I'm different now, but I don't know why.

[ shrugs ] But whatever, it doesn't really bug me or anything.

It bugs me. [ she's slipping slowly from his reach ]

[ she thinks that maybe before, that sort of thing would have made her feel........ more. but now there's just this faint twinge that she thinks she could easily ignore, but right now she actually doesn't want to ]

. . . I'm sorry.

I just want to know why this is happening.

So I can fix it.

[ He's seriously thinking about making a contract so he can do so anyway. He's willing to give up his soul to bring Mandya back. ]

[ blinks ]

Does that mean you think I'm broken?

[ He flinches at that. In an instant he looks even more upset. And also quite guilty. But he doesn't answer her. ]

Oh.

[ she slumps at that. part of her thinks she probably wants to cry a little, but the tears won't come ]

...... This isn't what I wanted at all.

Ever since you started acting weird... Something about that just seemed so wrong.

[ turns the ring over and over in her hands and just stares at it for a while ]
